Jones Magnet Middle School is named National Blue Ribbon School

Congratulations to Jones Magnet Middle School (JMMS) for being named a National Blue Ribbon School. This award is given by the U.S. Department of Education to schools based on their overall academic excellence or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Receipt of the award demonstrates that all students can achieve high levels.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognized Jones with a proclamation at a state board of education meeting in Richmond, VA, on January 8.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.

“Earning the National Blue Ribbon School Award is a tremendous honor for Jones Magnet Middle School and a true reflection of the school’s sustained commitment to academic excellence and student success,” shared chief of secondary school leadership Shameka Pollard. “This recognition represents the collective hard work and dedication of the school’s teachers, staff, and students, whose commitment to high expectations and continuous improvement makes this achievement possible. We also proudly acknowledge the strong leadership that has guided this work, including the foundation laid by former principal Sharon Slater and the continued leadership of current principal Dr. Heidi Brezinski. Together, this school community exemplifies a culture of excellence, innovation, and achievement.”

Armstrong School for the Arts was named a Blue Ribbon School in 2015 and Jones also received this honor in 2018.
