PHS executive principal David Coccoli earns doctorate
Congratulations to Dr. David Coccoli, executive principal at Phoebus High School, who successfully defended his doctoral capstone at Liberty University, marking the culmination of years of academic study and professional dedication.
Dr. Coccoli’s capstone focused on recommendations to address low yearly progress for English Language Learners on the WIDA assessment, a topic that aligns closely with Hampton City Schools’ ongoing efforts to strengthen instructional practices and improve student outcomes.
He has served at Phoebus High School in multiple leadership roles over the past several years, most recently as executive principal for the past three years. Prior to that, he spent four years as an academy principal, serving one year as the academy principal for the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism and three years as the Freshman Academy principal. Dr. Coccoli also previously served as an assistant principal at Jones Magnet Middle School.
Before joining Hampton City Schools, he worked in Suffolk Public Schools as a high school social studies teacher and head football coach for four years. Earlier in his career, he served as a high school teacher and football coach in Dumfries, Manassas, and Newport News.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in history at Christopher Newport University, his master’s in education from Old Dominion University, and his Ed.S. from Old Dominion University.
“Dr. Coccoli’s accomplishment reflects his commitment to lifelong learning and to the students he serves,” said Shameka Pollard, Hampton City Schools chief of secondary school leadership. “We are proud of his dedication and leadership at Phoebus High School.”
Congratulations again to Dr. David Coccoli on this outstanding achievement!
