PHS students visit students at Andrews and donate bilingual books for Read Your World Day
In honor of Read Your World Day (formerly Multicultural Children’s Book Day), students from the Phoebus High School (PHS) Freshman Academy visited a small group of Andrews PreK-8 School students and staff for a quick, but powerful kickoff to an exciting new project and partnership.
During their visit, PHS students donated 25 books written in a variety of diverse languages to the Andrews school library. In addition, Andrews scholars received flags, bilingual books (Spanish & English), and bilingual flashcards to help build their personal home libraries.
This experience allowed PHS students to identify a gap in the availability of diverse titles and languages within school libraries. Together, they took action—starting with Andrews—to help address that need.
The hope of the PHS Freshman Academy is that our elementary and middle scholars will visit the Andrews' library to check out one of the newly added diverse-language books, and share what they learn with others—spreading awareness, appreciation, and a love of reading across our community.
