HHS students place in Congressional App Challenge
Students from Hampton High School earned top honors at the Congressional App Challenge, with three teams named finalists in this year’s competition.
Team BetterMe earned second place for its app focused on personal wellness, including weight management, healthy eating, stress management, and proper sleep. The team consisted of Jaycob Flores, DeVante Randle, and Michael Puryear.
Team ApplyGuild placed fourth for its app designed to support students with career exploration and college application information. Team members included Hieu Tran, Price Michael, Jordan Lang, and Dazel Anne Siriban.
Team OpporTeen received an Honorable Mention. Camden Graham, the sole member of the team, developed an app centered on helping students explore employment, internship, and volunteer opportunities.
In total, 12 apps were submitted from Hampton High School classes, accounting for nearly half of the 25 entries in the competition, and three Hampton High teams advanced as finalists.
“I am very proud of the work they have accomplished. We won half of the placements awarded at the reception,” said LaVoris Hill, CTE instructional leader at Hampton High School.
The Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide competition that encourages middle and high school students to develop coding skills and explore careers in computer science.
