Hampton City Schools continues Hampton Reads program
Hampton City Schools is excited to bring back the Hampton Reads program! Pre-K through 2nd grade will be reading Zoey and Sassafras, while 3rd through 5th grade will enjoy Bobby the Brave (Sometimes). The program is sponsored thanks to a generous donation from Old Point National Bank.
A component of the program is that every student and staff member will receive a copy of the book. Schools will provide a calendar to guide the reading schedule throughout the month. Additionally, special videos featuring readers Dr. Raymond Haynes, superintendent; Dr. John Caggiano, deputy superintendent and chief of staff; Shelly Spain, director of Title 1 literacy; and Robert Shuford, president of Old Point National Bank, will be available
“Hampton Reads is an exciting initiative aimed at spreading the joy of reading across our schools and community,” shared Shari Drake, HCS curriculum leader for K-5English and language arts. “Thanks to our literacy partner, Old Point National Bank, and their generous gift to the Hampton Education Foundation, Hampton Reads creates a community-wide literacy initiative. Through this collaboration, we aim to foster a love of reading and enhance educational opportunities for all.”
The program begins in March.
