Phoebus High School football players mentor students at Smith Elementary School

Phoebus High School (PHS) Football Coach Jeremy Blunt and 15 Phoebus football players are investing in their community through service. They visited Smith Elementary School on February 21, 2024, where they connected over lunch with students in grades 3-5. These student-athletes took the skills they have learned on the playing field - leadership, teamwork, goal setting and discipline - to another level as they worked to mentor the students.

There was a lot of energy and conversation in the room as the students talked and got to know each other. Among other things, they discussed football, moving on to middle and high school, and the importance of being yourself and doing the right thing.

David Roberts, PHS junior and running back, said, “We are here to help the kids, show them how life is and to do the right things. They look up to us and we want to be role models to them.”

“They look up to us as role models – everything we do – social media and outside of school,” said Caleb Tillery, linebacker and junior. “It gives the kids some hope and inspiration to one day do what we do.”

Blunt shared, “This is a great experience for the guys and it helps them as well as the younger students. These players have demonstrated leadership on and off the field and this is a great experience for them to connect to the kids.”
