Derek Savage of Lindsay Middle School earns his doctorate
Congratulations to Derek L. Savage, school counselor at Lindsay Middle School, for earning his doctorate of education (Ed.D.) in educational administration and supervision from Virginia State University. His dissertation was titled Exploring the Mental Health Awareness of African American Male Educators in Title 1 Schools.
An alumnus of Hampton High School, Dr. Savage has dedicated the past four years to Lindsay Middle School, where he has successfully led numerous initiatives for students, parents, and the community. His efforts have significantly contributed to students’ academic success, personal growth, and overall well-being. Last year, he received recognition from the Virginia Department of Education’s Office of Behavioral Health and Wellness for his impactful work. Dr. Savage also holds a bachelor of science in communications and a master of arts in urban education, K-12 school counseling from Norfolk State University.
“Dr. Savage has persevered to achieve the highest achievement. He has accepted the challenge of dedicating his time and effort to better himself to be better for our scholars, and for that, we are grateful. Congratulations, job well done,” said Sharif Hicks, principal at Lindsay Middle School.”
