Kecoughtan High School culinary students experience hands-on lesson at Hayashi Sushi and Grill

Students in the introduction to culinary arts program at Kecoughtan High School recently participated in a field trip to the Hayashi Sushi and Grill. Students were able to experience the art of hibachi cooking.

General manager Jay Choe spoke with the students about Japanese cuisine and running a restaurant.

Student Norritta West said, “The salad dressing and the food were good. Our chef was entertaining and showed us how to cook quickly and with not much oil.”

“The way the chef cut the meat was precise and he was fast,” said student Brianna Spellman.

“This was a great opportunity for our students to see what they can expect if they plan to further their education after high school in the culinary field,” added KHS introduction to culinary teacher Valerie Wolf.
