Izabel Kudrick of Phenix PreK-8 School wins a world title in the North American Grappling Association championship

Izabel Kudrick (Izzy), a student at Phenix PreK-8 School, is not your ordinary third grader. She recently added the title of girls world champion in the 70-79.9 weight class/8-9 year old to her long list of titles. She won this match in 11 seconds.

Izzy has been working hard for this title for three years. In addition to the world title, she has eight state titles from Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and North Carolina, two national titles, and two North America titles.

When asked how Izzy became involved in grappling, her father said she tried several types of dance and other activities but they were just not active enough. She decided to try grappling which her dad was also previously involved in.

When she is not competing on the grappling mat, Izzy enjoys Legos and building. She is a Disney fanatic and her favorite subjects in school are science and history.

Grappling is a martial arts term that refers to maneuvers and methodologies that entail grabbing an opponent. In layman terms, grappling is integrated into the majority of combat sports and martial arts, including judo, ju-jitsu, sambo, and wrestling. Grapple is basically to get involved in hand-to-hand fighting, which is a component of wrestling. However, in Brazilian jiujitsu, the concept of grappling is also used to refer to ground combat, which is a prevalent fighting strategy. There are various distinctions between grappling and freestyle wrestling, as well as ground fighting arts like ju-jitsu.
