Paul Karhnak, student representative to the School Board receives the VSBA Exhibitors Scholarship

Paul Karhnak, a senior at Hampton High School, was awarded the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Exhibitors Scholarship during the VSBA annual convention on November 18, 2020. Paul has served as the student representative to the School Board during the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years. He was given an opportunity to serve a second year after his tenure was cut short in 2020 due to schools closing because of COVID-19.

The scholarship is sponsored in conjunction with participating VSBA Annual Convention exhibitor sponsors. It is given to a deserving high school senior graduating in the spring of 2020 who has served as a student school board representative during their junior or senior year.

Paul was selected based upon the VSBA Exhibitors Scholarship Committee’s assessment of his academic achievement, character, school and community service, and career goals.

“Receiving the VSBA Exhibitors Scholarship is a great honor and, as I believe it to be, an even greater testament to the value of putting others before oneself,” said Paul. “One of the foremost skills I seek to apply every day in my position as Hampton’s student representative to the School Board is proper listening. Listening emphasizes what another person has to say and where their standpoint is.”

Paul hopes to attend the Naval Academy next fall.
