Kecoughtan High School World Language Department sponsors Angel Tree

The World Language Department at Kecoughtan High School has been sponsoring an Angel Tree to assist Kecoughtan families for at least seven or eight years. Even in this virtual environment for most students, this year is no exception.

According to Melanie Howard, teacher at KHS, they usually ask families who are identified as in need for their wish lists to include clothing and shoe sizes. They then put the wishes on a display in the media center showcase. Students and staff would choose an angel, buy a gift and return it to the school. In prior years the World Language students would meet after school to wrap the gifts and enjoy a pizza party. The wrapped gifts were then delivered to the families.

This year, however, because of COVID-19, they had to rethink their usual procedures. The department decided to have gift cards donated instead of actual gifts. It was a great success with over $1,600 in gift cards being donated.

Howard said the cards are being divided among several KHS families in hopes of brightening their holidays.

“In keeping with the KHS Angel Tree tradition, you all have gone above and beyond in the spirit of giving,” said Dr. Syreeta Jones Cason, graduation specialist, in a message to the staff.

What a great way to show that warrior spirit and brighten the holidays for others!
