BUSter the Book Bus continues to deliver books to Hampton students

BUSter the Book Bus headed out for its third run since mid-October. A total of 641 books were checked out by excited Hampton students on Friday, December 11 during BUSter’s Book Mobile Holiday Bazaar. That’s nearly 1,300 books in the hands of students since the initiative first began on October 23, 2020.

BUSter typically stops at 28 sites in the community neighborhoods every three to four weeks. Students may return the books they previously checked out and get new ones each time the bus comes around.

The Book Bus is coordinated with the school librarians, reading specialists, transportation, Jennifer Lockett of the department of innovation and professional learning, and Kelli Cedo, curriculum leader for language arts. Cedo shared about the recent event, “To see the smiles on the families faces was just so wonderful!”

It is so important that students have access to age-appropriate books during this time of virtual learning. Independent reading done outside of class is critical and BUSter is uplifting literacy in our division.

BUSter hopes to be back on the road again on Friday, January 29, 2021. Stay tuned!
