HCS wellness center and pharmacy continue to show growth and savings
The Hampton City Schools Health & Wellness Center and HCS Pharmacy have continued to show growth and garner savings for both employees and the school division.
The Health & Wellness Center opened in September of 2014. It is open to all benefits eligible employees and their covered dependents, age six and above. The center is staffed with two nurse practitioners and two medical assistants. Depending on the health plan that an employee chooses and the reason for the visit, co-pays range from $0 to $20. Participation in the Health and Wellness Center has increased to 66% in 2018, with engagement of high and chronic risk patients increasing to 45% during the same time period.
The Health and Wellness Center has seen a cost avoidance/savings of $2.4 million over the last 12 months and a total projected cost avoidance/savings on actual claims versus projected claims of $17.1 millions since the center’s inception. There is also an estimated 2018 copay savings for employees of $112,000. Employees have given the center a 98% satisfaction rank on the most recent client survey.
The HCS Pharmacy opened in July 2016, and has seen a member savings of $96,264 and a plan savings of $42,269. Participation in the pharmacy is open to the same members who are able to utilize the wellness center.
The pharmacy filled a total of 19,380 prescriptions in 2018. In December, 63% of the orders were for new prescriptions.In addition to the services of both the wellness center and the pharmacy, employees may participate in wellness programs such as the Maintain Don’t Gain program, Winning at Losing, and the employee wellness initiative. Other upcoming programs include the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program, HCS Health Fair, yoga classes, prescription review, and chair massages at the schools.

Upon receiving a report of alleged discrimination, harassment or retaliation, the Compliance Officer shall promptly authorize an investigation into the complaint, determine whether the alleged act occurred, and determine whether any action must be taken to end or prevent further harassment, discrimination, or retaliation. The majority of pages in our site are available in HTML format that can be deciphered by screen readers. Some documents are in Portable Document Format (PDF), which require Adobe Acrobat Reader to view.
Also, many popular browsers contain built-in accessibility tools, and there are other plug-ins that make websites more accessible.
The HCS website is designed and monitored by HCS Webmaster Vickie Carper, who serves as the gatekeeper for website content and accessibility. The Webmaster is under the direction of the Executive Director of Public Relations and Marketing, supervised by the Director of Graphics.

Our continuing goal is for the HCS website to be accessible to individuals with disabilities in compliance with the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and that statute's implementing regulations at 34 C.F.R. If the audit identifies issues of concern or content errors that impede accessibility to any user, the concerns/errors are evaluated and remedied within a six-week period.
