School Board appoints student School Board representatives for 2023-2024

 

The Hampton School Board appointed Sophia Harris, a junior at Kecoughtan High School, and Jonathan Jackson, a senior at Bethel High School, as the student representatives to the School Board for 2023-2024. The students were appointed and sworn in at the November 1, 2024, School Board meeting.


Sophia is a member of the On-Stage Performing Arts Academy at Kecoughtan, where she has been a student ambassador for two years. Sophia has a 4.07 GPA, and is enrolled in dual enrollment and Advanced Placement courses. She is an active member of the theater program and was a cast member in the Next Generation Storytellers film "Click", where she won the award for best-supporting actor. Sophia enjoys singing and acting, and is also a member of the KHS swim team.  


Jonathan is a member of the Academy of Media Arts and Design at Bethel, where he has been a student ambassador for three years. He has a 3.88 GPA and has been enrolled in dual enrollment and Advanced Placement courses. He currently serves as a member of the Senior Class Committee and the National Honor Society. Jonathan is active in his church and coordinates youth church at Gethsemane Baptist Church. He participates with the 100 Black Men of Virginia Peninsula, and this summer he was selected to attend the Summer Residential Governor's School at Radford University.
