Two HCS students place in 2024 Prefaces art competition

Congratulations to Ivy Stone, a senior at Kecoughtan High School, who won first place in the 2024 Prefaces art competition and Sadie Brooks, a senior at Bethel High School, who was awarded honorable mention. Ivy’s teacher is Ashley Brooks and Sadie’s teacher is Christie Liddell.

“Ivy’s hard work and dedication are evident in what she can accomplish within class,” shared Brooks. “She is a model student, eager to take on any challenging project in the art room. I am thrilled she placed first in the Preface Art Show and I look forward to seeing what she can accomplish for the remainder of the school year.”

The Prefaces 2024 art competition is open to full-time students in grades 10, 11, and 12 enrolled in public, private, home-school, or parochial high schools in Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, York County, and Williamsburg-James City County. The exhibition of the finalists and award winners is held at the Torggler Fine Arts Center in Newport News between March 2 and 31, 2024.
