Tracy Bourne of Kecoughtan High School receives the 2024 Virginia Thespian Educator of the Year award

Tracy Bourne, theatre and lead pathway teacher in the On Stage Performing Arts Academy at Kecoughtan High School (KHS), received the 2024 Virginia Thespian Educator of the Year award.


This prestigious honor shines a spotlight on educators who have made an indelible impact on the world of theatre education. The Theatre Educator of the Year award recognizes a Virginia Thespians board member who works tirelessly to nurture creativity, inspire growth, and ignite a lifelong love for the performing arts in their students. From fostering innovative teaching methods to cultivating a nurturing classroom environment, nominees embody the essence of what it means to be an exceptional theatre educator. Their dedication, passion, and commitment go beyond the stage, shaping the future of theatre and enriching the lives of countless individuals.


“We are incredibly proud of Mrs. Bourne,” shared Dwayne Lucas, KHS executive principal. “This award is well-deserved and represents the dedication that Mrs. Bourne has for her students and theater education.”

Bourne is Kecoughtan’s 2023-24 Teacher of the Year and High School Teacher of the Year finalist. She is in her 23rd year of teaching with Hampton City Schools. Bourne also serves as the chapter director for Virginia Thespians, a division of the Educational Theatre Association and the International Thespian Society.
