Hampton City Schools names new director of information technology


At the December 6, 2023, meeting of the School Board, the Hampton School Board appointed Dr. James Maxlow as the director of information technology (IT), effective January 3, 2024. Maxlow replaces John Eagle who is retiring at the end of December. 


Maxlow joined Hampton City Schools in 2017, serving in the role as a technology support manager until he was promoted to his current role as assistant director of information technology. He began his career in public education in 1999, first as a teacher then a technology curriculum integration specialist, lead technology integration specialist, and then the supervisor of instructional technology, all with Newport News City Public Schools.

 

He is a graduate of Christopher Newport University with a bachelor’s in mathematics and a master’s in applied physics and computer science. He went on to obtain his Ed.D. in curriculum and educational technology from the College of William and Mary.
